Percussion Only Music for Tension and Action

Audiosocket's percussion only collection is royalty free percussion music made from the drums-only versions of cinematic tension, crime and action cues. Most of the set comes from Justin Marcellus, including Hit Man (Percussion Only) and Cymtext (Percussion Only), pairing world drums with electronic hits in the hybrid vein of Michael McCann's Deus Ex Human Revolution score. Averaging under two minutes, they work as rhythm beds and stingers where a full score would fight dialogue.

About this Playlist

These tracks are genuinely percussion only, with no melody, apart from one exception. Almost every track is the isolated percussion version of a full cinematic cue, marked (Percussion Only) in the title, such as Justin Marcellus' Clairvoyance (Percussion Only) and Travis Geer's Underground Market (Percussion Only), with the melodic layers of the original stripped away. Heart Grooves NO CROWD by Aaron Drake is a version without crowd noise, and Gully Drums Only by Pailboy is the one cut that carries vocal elements alongside the drums, so audition it before placing it under speech.
It is cinematic percussion with a strong world-percussion component. World drums and electronic percussion appear on most tracks, driven by suspense, tension, crime-mystery and action-adventure cues, and the reference points are Michael McCann's Deus Ex Human Revolution score, Hans Zimmer and hybrid cyberpunk scores rather than ethnographic or ceremonial drumming. A world-themed cinematic cue and a nu-funk beat sit at the edges, but the centre of gravity is dark, modern, hybrid score percussion.
Short. The tracks average under two minutes, well below a typical full-length cue, because they are rhythm beds rather than complete compositions. That length suits scene transitions, title reveals, tension builds under a countdown, and montage segments in true crime or documentary edits. Because there is no melody to resolve, a cut on a downbeat or a hit works almost anywhere in the track, so trimming further for a stinger is straightforward.
Percussion beds carry rhythm without melody, so dialogue, narration and sound effects can sit on top without competing with a melodic line. That is the production job of this collection: drive pace and tension in a scene while the voice track stays intelligible. It also layers well; a percussion-only version of a cue can be stacked under sound design, or used as an alternate mix for a scene where the full score is too busy.
Edits already scored with these cues stay cleared after you cancel. A subscription gives unlimited licensing during its term, and every license issued under it is perpetual for the specific finished work it was attached to, so a video, game trailer or film cut delivered while the subscription was active remains cleared after the subscription ends. Billing is monthly or annual, and license tiers run Individual, Indie Film, Small Business and Large Business. A new finished work needs its own license, issued while the subscription is active.
